<p>Summary<br><br></p><p>This position is responsible for registration and insurance verification in all registration areas within MyMichigan Health. This position will make financial arrangements for patients without insurance or with inadequate insurance. A primary function of this position will be to perform point of service collections of copay and deductible amounts from patients at the point of discharge in a diplomatic and customer focused manner. This position must be able to work in a team atmosphere and have good communication skills. This position will also perform miscellaneous related duties as assigned.</p><br>Responsibilities<br><br><p><strong><u>A Day in the Life of an Admitting Representative at MyMichigan Health:</u></strong></p><ul><li><strong>(40%)*</strong>Collects co-pay amounts, posts the payment in the computer, prints receipts, balance cash at end of shift. Provides patients with preprinted materials.</li><li><strong>(20%)*</strong>Meets with the patient and/or family to explain insurance coverage, treatment costs, hospital billing policies and to inform them of their financial obligations upon discharge. Sets up payment plans.</li><li><strong>(20%)*</strong>Makes financial arrangements for patients without insurance or with inadequate insurance coverage and communicates available financial assistances program for self pay patients.</li><li><strong>(20%)*</strong>Accesses insurance eligibility websites to verify benefits and coverage. Able to assess co-pay and deductible amounts and document the information.</li></ul><br>Certifications and Licensures<br><br><p>N/A</p><br>Required Education<br><br><p><strong><u>Requirements We Are Looking For:</u></strong></p><p><strong>Education:</strong>High School Diploma or GED<br><strong>Equivalent Experience:</strong></p><br>Other Information<br><br><p><strong><u>Other Duties and Responsibilities:</u></strong></p><p><strong>EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS</strong></p><ul><li>One-year experience working with insurance and patient accounts preferred.</li><li>Typing skills and basic personal computer knowledge needed to enter patient information.</li><li>Basic math proficiency and customer service skills.</li><li>Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear an understandable manner.</li><li>Maintains confidentiality with all patient information and data obtained.</li><li>Knowledge of medical terminology and medical office practices, policies and procedures as normally acquired through experience working in the medical center or similar setting preferred.</li><li>Four (4) years’ experience working in a hospital setting with insurance, registration and collections preferred.</li><li>CHAA certification preferred.</li><li>MyMichigan Health is a technology driven organization and employees need to demonstrate competency in Microsoft Windows.</li><li>An employee may be required to participate in further learning opportunities offered by MyMichigan Health.</li></ul><p><strong>PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:</strong></p><ul><li>Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.</li><li>Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.</li><li>Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.</li><li>Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).</li><li>Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.</li><li>Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.</li><li>Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.</li><li>Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.</li><li>Physical Demand Level: Sedentary.
