We are seeking a motivated Material Handler/Driver with a passion for people and teamwork to join our Team. The position is people focused, fast paced, rewarding. The Material Handler/CDL Driver delivers material to job sites, inspects and maintains trucks and equipment, loads and unloads material, stores material in the warehouse and yard, reports shortages, overages, damage, claims, and accidents to the Yard Foreman, and waits on customers in the yard. The Material Handler/CDL Driver also assists the Team to achieve all the store's annual goals including sales, gross margin percent, gross margin dollars, and expenses.

Hourly rate is dependent on experience and overall knowledge of the position.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain proper license to drive/operate assigned vehicles and equipment
  • Be physically able to walk and stand on the job for extended periods of time, occasionally lift items that weigh up to 100 pounds, consistently lift items that weigh up 80 pounds, and frequently bend, squat, reach, lift, carry, push and pull which will be necessary when loading and unloading trucks, and stocking merchandise
  • Develop and maintain a superior knowledge of all inventory stocked by 41 Lumber
  • Advise Yard Foreman or Store Manager of low inventory items or potential out of stock situations
  • Unload incoming freight and follow proper receiving procedures to verify accuracy
  • Store material in the proper location
  • Be familiar with the load capacity and proper weight distribution of trucks and forklifts and their proper use
  • Load and secure material to be delivered, which includes verifying the materials to the pick ticket and an independent check is done before the load leaves
  • Deliver and unload material or pick up returns at customer job sites
  • Wait on and load customers in the yard
  • Receive payments for COD deliveries and coordinate this with the Bookkeeper
  • Inspect trucks, forklifts, and equipment before first use each day (both mechanically and visually for cleanliness). Report any unsafe conditions to the Yard Foreman.
  • Maintain and verify the accuracy of all IFTA logs (IMT only)
  • Assist with inventory control, weekly cycle counts, and annual physical inventory
  • Act as 41 Lumber's representative and treat all customers and third parties in a courteous and friendly manner
  • Be alert to possible sales opportunities and relay them to the Store Manager
  • Report all customer complaints to the Store Manager

Education: High school diploma or experience in a similar role

OR

Experience: three years including basic comprehension of product procurement process; knowledge of building materials a plus; forklift and heavy equipment experience a plus. Possesses and maintains a valid CDL and has a clear driving record.
