Job Summary The US Natural Gas Analyst plays a critical role in strengthening ConocoPhillips’ commercial decision‑making by delivering high‑quality market analytics and modern, scalable modeling capabilities. This position supports a large and complex U.S. natural gas portfolio, providing insights that directly inform trading, portfolio optimization, and strategic planning. As part of ConocoPhillips’ multi‑year Commercial Transformation, the role focuses on modernizing supply‑and‑demand analysis, moving from legacy, spreadsheet‑driven approaches toward Python‑based, automated, and scalable analytical tools. The analyst partners closely with traders and commercial stakeholders, translating complex market dynamics into actionable insights that drive real business outcomes. Position Overview Your responsibilities may include: * Building, maintaining, and enhancing U.S. natural gas supply‑and‑demand models covering production, pipeline flows, storage, liquefied natural gas (LNG) feed gas, and regional pricing dynamics. * Producing short‑, medium‑, and long‑term market balance forecasts that identify risks, dislocations, and opportunity drivers across Henry Hub and regional hubs. * Developing analytical tools and workflows using Python to replace and modernize legacy spreadsheet‑based models. * Engineering and managing large datasets by integrating data from public and proprietary sources such as the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), pipeline data, pricing feeds, and weather data. * Building automated data pipelines and application programming interface (API) connections to support timely, repeatable analysis. * Partnering directly with natural gas traders to translate market fundamentals into scenario analysis, decision tools, and tradable insights. * Supporting near‑term and intraday decision‑making through dashboards, indicators, and event‑response analysis. * Assessing the impact of weather, infrastructure constraints, LNG flows, and supply‑demand shifts on price formation. * Collaborating with teams across power, LNG, risk management, technology, and operations to ensure analytical outputs align with commercial workflows and systems. * Communicating insights clearly through written commentary, visualizations, and presentations for traders and senior leaders. Basic Requirements: * Bachelor’s degree or higher in Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Engineering, other related field, or foreign equivalent. * 3 or more years of experience with energy trading, market analysis, or related fields. * Experience with Python programming for data analysis, modeling, and automation. * Experience building or maintaining supply‑and‑demand models for natural gas or closely related commodities such as LNG, power, or crude oil. Preferred Requirements: * Legally authorized to work in the United States * Experience working with large, complex datasets and integrating multiple data sources. * Experience supporting trading, market analytics, or commercial teams in energy markets. * Solid understanding of U.S. natural gas fundamentals, including production, transportation, storage, weather impacts, and basis dynamics. * Familiarity with data visualization, time‑series analysis, and market data platforms. * Ability to communicate analytical findings clearly to commercial and non‑technical stakeholders. * A collaborative mindset and interest in supporting front‑office decision‑making. * Demonstrated ability to balance analytical rigor with practical decision support. * Comfort working in a build‑phase environment where analytical tools and workflows are evolving.
