About the Role At Rula, maintaining high trust with payers, patients, and providers is the bedrock of accessible mental healthcare. We’re seeking a Staff Software Engineer to step in as the foundational leader of our nascent Trust & Safety Engineering team within the Provider organization. In this high-impact role, you will serve as the chief architect of our digital armor, driving product-based implementations that enable us to fulfill, audit, measure, and enforce critical Trust & Safety policies across both internal and external-facing users and workflows. You will lead the charge on both product architecture and operational, process-based solutions—building robust custom tools and leveraging top-tier industry solutions to investigate and mitigate threats like fraud, billing anomalies, and credential abuse. If you are excited to establish a brand-new engineering domain from the ground up, mentor senior engineers, and build scalable systems that directly protect a vital mental health ecosystem, this is your next playground. Required Qualifications • 8+ years of experience • 1+ years working on Trust & Safety systems anywhere • 1+ years experience helping to form a new team from scratch • Experience working on cross-functional teams to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical groups • Fullstack experience building modern database-backed (sql/no-sql) web applications • Experience with microservice development • Experience mentoring others, reviewing architectures, and establishing design patterns. • Experience driving all phases of the development lifecycle planning, specing, execution, and measuring success, post-launch maintenance • Experience working on highly complex projects with a focus on achieving sustainable results Preferred Qualifications • Start-up experience • Experience developing SaaS applications using the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud platform • Previous experience in products with high reliability/accuracy requirements (finance, mission critical systems, etc.) • Experience with “on-call”, ability to deep dive complex issues and drive them to resolution independently • Experience with NodeJs, Typescript, Kafka We're serious about your well-being!
