Job Description:

Job Description

The Solutions Design and Implementation (SOLDI) Supervisor works within the Supply Chain Optimization (SCO) practice area as a Supply Chain Consultant. The focus lies in developing and implementing solutions related to a customer’s overall supply chain - this includes optimizing customer’s warehousing, transportation, and distribution networks that support customers’ strategic decisions. He/she strengthens customer relationships by enabling UPS to be a single-source provider of transportation and supply chain related needs and consulting. This position requires travel. He/she manages various types of supply chain and distribution analysis projects, engineering projects, provides subject matter expertise, and interfaces with SCO team members and customer-facing counterparts.

This position leverages Digital Twin Simulation technology to create virtual replicas of complex supply chain environments, gathering and analyzing granular operational data to simulate "what-if" scenarios that reveal a customer’s true needs. The role is responsible for presenting these simulated solutions to stakeholders—utilizing data visualization to outline final deliverables, cost justifications, and quantified value—thereby providing empirical reassurance of a solution's viability before any physical implementation occurs.

The candidate manages the entire simulation project lifecycle, from initial data ingestion and 3D model building to the deployment of optimized workflows. As a subject matter expert, this position assists in developing advanced sales strategies that highlight our predictive modeling capabilities to drive business growth. Working on-site, the supervisor observes and analyzes physical processes to refine their digital counterparts, utilizing specialized simulation software to redesign supply chain flows. They are ultimately responsible for synthesizing order profiles, SKU velocity, and equipment performance into a cohesive Digital Twin that justifies capital expenditure through rigorous, simulated validation.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Design and build 3D simulation models to represent facilities simulation layout and process simulation.
  • Conduct "what-if" scenario testing to identify operational constraints, evaluate the impact of volume surges, and determine optimal equipment utilization rates to maximize total facility throughput.
  • Provide data-driven justifications for large-scale infrastructure investments by demonstrating projected Return on Investment (ROI) and efficiency gains through simulated trials of new layouts or automation technologies.
  • Translate technical simulation results into actionable business insights and executive-level presentations, bridging the gap between engineering technicalities and operational requirements.
  • Assists in the development of project proposals to help articulate customer needs and solution requirements, and to sell the value of Customer Solutions
  • Manages full project lifecycles by developing detailed project plans—including scope, resources, schedules, milestones, and work breakdown structures—and assigning tasks to ensure successful initiation, design, implementation, and on‑time delivery according to specifications.
  • Reports on project status, field resource activity, and training initiatives to keep senior management informed of progress and developments
  • Follows up with resources to monitor the productivity of the team, project timelines, and deliverables
  • Participates in sales meetings and conference calls to share information and provide training on new developments
  • Provides on-going feedback and support to improve performance

Knowledge and Skills

  • Applies Service, Product, and Customer Technology Knowledge: Demonstrates familiarity with the core service offerings across business units and deep familiarity with product, service, and customer facing technology offerings of at least one business unit; demonstrates knowledge of competitors' offerings and the features of their products, services, and customer facing technology solutions; describes types of customers that would benefit from selected offerings; compares and contrasts UPS's and competitor's products, services, and customer facing technology solutions; able to compare and contrast the customer's experience of engaging with UPS and primary competitors across all touch-points; summarizes positive and negative gaps; develops plans to leverage advantages and correct disadvantages
  • Assesses Business Needs: Identifies current and future needs of the customer or business; understands how business needs dictate the project’s requirements, project direction, business objectives, and resource allocation; makes recommendations on the solutions-design phase of the project
  • Business, Financial, and Industry Knowledge: Considers industry and financial trends when making account decisions; understands critical aspects of business models and operating structures to provide input into decisions
  • Designs/Develops Integrated Solutions to Business Problems: Demonstrates a basic understanding of a business problem; recommends a solution to solve the business problem
  • Project Management: Develops project management plans and leads the implementation for basic projects of short duration requiring limited coordination and resources; supports initiatives with well-defined project needs and cross-functional roles/responsibilities throughout the project life cycle; manages minimal organizational resistance to cross-functional project demands; employs project management tools and technology appropriately
  • Supply Chain Management: Demonstrates a detailed understanding of supply chain concepts; makes recommendations for changes to solve supply chain problems
  • Technical Writing: Uses the appropriate style, level of detail, grammar, and organization of thought in technical writing; drafts standard specialized or technical documents using templates and job aids; considers the end-user’s perspective when creating technical documents
  • Effective communication skills: Ability to effectively communicate and present to audiences of varying degrees of influence

Qualifications & Requirements

Technical Skills

  • Simulation Software Proficiencies: Proficiency in industry-standard simulation tools such as FlexSim, AnyLogic, Simio, or Demo3D.
  • Analytical Tools: Strong command of SQL, Python, or R for data cleaning and statistical analysis of SKU velocity and order profiles.
  • 3D Modeling & CAD experience (AutoCAD, SketchUp, etc.).

Soft Skills & Core Competencies

  • Consultative Approach: Ability to interview on-site stakeholders and translate qualitative "floor knowledge" into quantitative model parameters.
  • Complex Problem Solving: A natural aptitude for identifying bottlenecks and a "test-and-learn" mindset when optimizing layout designs.
  • Executive Communication: Excellence in visualizing complex data sets into clear, compelling narratives for customer-facing sales presentations and cost-justification meetings.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple simulation projects simultaneously, adhering to strict timelines from the data-gathering phase through to final deployment.
